I am so excited to share with you the opportunity we’ve been given at Mitchell & Mitchell and the experience I’ve had so far. I recently began volunteering in my daughter’s third grade classroom at Olive Elementary and it has been so fulfilling and has made me indescribably happy. For one hour a week during the workday, I’m able to assist my daughter’s teacher, Mrs. Boulad by guiding kids in small groups on different subjects. While I’m helping four to five kids in a group, Mrs. Boulad is able to manage the classroom and help kids on an individual basis.
It feels really good to be able to help out, especially with how busy Mrs. Boulad is teaching 24 kids! The most exciting part so far has just been getting to spend more time with my daughter and to see her in her own environment, doing her own thing and interacting with her peers. It’s great to be able to get to know her friends and classmates as well and I can tell the kids love having new people in the classroom to interact with.
Being able to volunteer at Olive Elementary is so fulfilling because the kids truly need us just as much as the teachers need the assistance. Having volunteers in the classroom means the teacher has more time to get urgent tasks done and to help kids one-on-one. If you’re an employer thinking about allowing your employees to volunteer during work hours or if you’re someone thinking about volunteering, I definitely recommend pursuing the opportunity. I’ve had so much fun in the few hours I’ve volunteered so far and everyone (employer, employee, kids, teacher, school, community) benefits from it. I wish I had taken advantage of this opportunity sooner!
