Mitchell & Mitchell Insurance Agency recently made a generous contribution to the Novato Branch of the American Association of University Women's Tech Trek Science Camp at Stanford. The donation will finance one full scholarship for a seventh grade Novato girl to attend camp for one week.
There will be a total of 84 seventh-grade girls at Stanford for AAUW's Tech Trek Science Camp, and overall, 680 seventh-grade girls will attend Tech Trek statewide this summer. In addition to the Stanford campus, camps are held at Sonoma State U, Fresno State U, Whittier College (L.A.) UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, UC Davis and UC Irvine.
Tech Trek was started in 1998 to give girls a preview of college life while learning that math and science can be fun. The Novato Branch of AAUW has been sending girls to camp every summer since the inception of the program twelve years ago and Mitchell & Mitchell has been helping through their donations for the past three years. American Diabetes Association Fundraiser
Mitchell & Mitchell sponsored the team Mitchell & Mitchell Pedallers for the May 5, 2013 Napa Valley Tour de Cure, an American Diabetes Association Fundraiser that raised more than $1,270,000 to stop Diabetes. More than 2,000 riders and more than 160 teams participated.
Brian Santa Maria from Mitchell & Mitchell’s Sacramento office and Sue Potter from the Novato office joined forces with Sue’s 80-year-old Novato friend, Bob Banfield, and Sue’s daughter from Chico. Team Mitchell & Mitchell Pedallers raised a total of $2800.
Brian planned to ride fifty miles, but got a flat tire at mile 35. Sue, Karen and Bob rode just ten miles. The day was cloudy and cool—a perfect day for a bike ride along the vineyards and past the wineries of Napa Valley.
Fundraising efforts by Mitchell and Mitchell Pedallers included two "dine and donate" dinners at Novato restaurants, one at California Grill and Rotisserie and the other at Tuscany Country Grill. There was also a raffle with ticket printing donated by Ron Layne of Amity Press and gift cards donated by Novato Toyota, Hopmonk’s, Tuscany Country Grill, Left Coast Depot, Marvin’s, Whole Foods and Pete’s Barber Shop.
The Tuscany Grill fundraising dinner was loud and chaotic, but people were very polite about listening to the talk about the American Diabetes Association and the raffle drawing. Luis Rivera was m.c. and Leigh Blair provided advice on displaying the prizes. Carl Lundgren from Mitchell & Mitchell came as well and brought his two daughters, one of whom picked the winning tickets and gave out the prizes for the raffle drawing. Jeff Roth also from the Novato Mitchell & Mitchell office came as well, and he won the Novato Toyota car maintenance. Nancy Major from Novato Mitchell & Mitchell won the big prize: $100 gift card for Dr. Insomniac's coffee shop. A city engineer who serves on the Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee with Sue Potter won a set of Sue’s daughter's note cards. Others from Mitchell & Mitchell who did not come to the dinner made donations and bought raffle tickets.
